The question people often ask my children that I always strain to hear the answer to is "Where are you from" or "Where do you live?". Our responses range from Ukraine to Philippines to Taiwan. Over the past few weeks I've been getting questions from the kids "Why does nobody speak English only Chinese?"...."They're speaking Japanese honey"..."Oh, what country are we in?" Poor disoriented babes. Although as we have unfurled our world maps I am pleased at their grasp of geography.
After a long arduous flight with two layovers, one of which was 10 hours, we arrived....not too much worse for the wear. The kids did fine but I am glad it is behind us. Chad once again, with God's amazing direction found us a fabulous home....cozy, clean and quiet, well it was until we arrived. Chad had to leave only days after we arrived but MIRACLE!....Yaya arrived the night before he left. I'm quite sure I would have been curled on my bed crying surrounded by packed boxes and hungry nocturnal children without her. As it stands now we have bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room/school room all functional and in order....children that sleep at night and play during the day....the grocery store semi figured and the nearby amazing park explored!
There is a Japanese church that has adopted us and I am not sure I've ever been so blessed in all my life. We arrived several days before our shipment from Taipei to a house stocked with food, clean sheets on the beds, warm blankets and towels and fresh flowers all over that house. And our first night the associate pastor brought a delicious home cooked meal. They continue to serve us....driving me to the hospital for check ups, taking the kids and I to the pediatrician with our flu scare, a trip to IKEA to finish filling our home, home cooked meal on the Sunday afternoon we were all home sick, and on and on....really I wouldn't have survived without their gracious hospitality.
It is Thanksgiving for us today.....and we have a lot to be thankful for.....Chad is home after 13 days in Chennai (my computer crashed as we arrived so having Chad's computer back has made me feel connected to the world again), being a family together is so good! We don't have the swine flu (only bronchitis and a virus), the kids had high fevers and yucky coughs for several days this week so I was worried as I haven't been immunized and all the news is warning pregnant women to beware. We have started school and the kids are truly enjoying it.
Our day consisted of a pancake breakfast, a long sunny walk in the nearby Expo park, library card at the Children's Literacy museum (which has English books, hooray!), long naps, tree decorating, a Charlie Brown Christmas and delicious pumkin soup (not having a way to order a turkey with a downed computer not that it matters as I don't have an oven anyway) All in all a different but delightful family day together.
"History is the story of redemption. This story is much bigger than I am. I am not the main character in the drama of redemption. I am not the point. But by God's grace I am a part of it. It is far more significant to have a small part in this story than to star in my own puny production. This is a cosmic story that will run throughout eternity. Will I play my part with grace and joy, or will I go for the short-run, insignificant story that really has no point?" -Susan Hunt

IT'S A GIRL!

Last Wednesday was the ultra sound that told it all. Christi was a trooper and went with me so the kids could see the baby 'on t.v.' Balloons, sweet baby clothes and smiles greeted me when I went to pick them up......Nykolas isn't as disappointed as I thought he would be....being adored by three little princess has got to be better than being adored by merely two!
